JEFFERSON STARSHIP
Edwardsville 1975 [DimeTravel, 1CD]

Mississippi River Festival. Live at the Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, Illinois; August 19, 1975. Fairly to very good audience recording.

Thanks to kneesfudd for sharing the show at Dime.

+ + + + +

kneesfudd noted:

- Very fine AUD.
- Warts: Repaired dullspots and dropouts but surely missed a few. Some AUD talk at times but mostly lowered. #01 fades in about 20secs late and 1st 80secs has noisy AUD and clapping was only minimised. #05 split second tape glitch near start. Minimised most near mike clapping as well as the idiot whistler. #09 cuts after ~1&1/2mins.
- Flo & Eddie was the opening act.
- This is clearly incomplete and very possibly “Blows” didn’t open. Just before #07 someone near the mike says, “more than 1/2 over” which isn’t logical 30mins into the set.
- The Festival went on for several weeks from the looks of it.
- Tho’ usually listed, “Home”, the album bit ‘tween “Hijack” and “Have You Seen The Stars Tonite?” wasn’t played in the 1974/75 live “Blows” suites.
- This was the “Red Octopus” tour. The album was recorded in February and released on June 13, 1975.

Lineage:
unknown mono recording equipment > master mono tape > not many analog only generations > unknown low generation Maxell XLII-90 cassette, Dolby B on.
Playback 2017-03-27: unknown low generation Maxell XLII-90 cassette on Nakamichi 680ZX cassette deck, Dolby B on, azimuth adjusted for individual tape, heads cleaned & demagnetized > Sony Linear PCM Recorder PCM-M10 (LPCM 44.10kHz/16bit WAV files) > computer > Audacity [normalisation to remove DC offset, channel/phase alignment, fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch, bump, pop, click, dropout & dullspot repairs, volume adjustments, -1.8% pitch (speed) fix with single pass after frequency analysis & with pitchpipe verification, NO equalisation or noise reduction] > CD Wave (track splits) > flacs (Trader’s Little Helper)

DimeTravel 333: Thanks to the original taper and traders! Thanks to DIMER gv0000 for his info assistance. It’s a pretty nice sounding recording and performance. A very rocked out version of “Blows”, “Hijack” into the bass solo is way heavy. “Blows” has much less of the hesitancy of the previous year, it’s played with dynamic confidence.
