RAUL MALO BAND
Philadelphia 2002 [no label, 1CD]
Live at Penn’s Landing, Philadelphia; July 20, 2002. Very good soundboard.
Thanks to lilpanda for sharing the show at Dime.
lilpanda noted:
It was blazing hot. I went down early with friends to get good seats. My wife had gone through a very large surgery the week before. An old friend was stepping back into her life and volunteered to come to this with her. She had no clue what she was about to see, aside from a few comments from me about the CD. Both arrive just as Malo is taking the stage. He was following Solomon Burke (RIP) who had gone on too long. The band was road tested by this time and, freed from the guitar, Malo stalked the stage like Elvis, legs apart, confident, and commanding attention. My wife sat bold upright in her chair - “WHO IS THIS??” By the second number she was totally transfixed and a Raul fan for life. Her friend, too
Malo was supporting his best album and played four of the fivegreat songs on it. You will never hear Raul Malo totally on fire as he was here with a crack band. This may be your only Malo show, which is fine… this show kicks ass, as does the album Today. You’ll hear the band lock in halfway thru the first song and, believe me, people were going batshit crazy in the heat. He was THAT good.
Give this a try - it is NOT mellow.
