They could have rocked out more and like Green On Red before them (they have some of the same jangle and catchiness), these guys deserve to be more widely heard!
Bastard Sons Of Johnny Cash are an Americana/alternative country band led by singer and songwriter Mark Stuart. The band formed in San Diego, California in 1995. They received permission to use Johnny Cash’s name by Cash himself and then personally invited to record songs for their first CD Walk Alone at Cash’s home in Hendersonville, Tennessee. The Bastard Sons Of Johnny Cash have opened for Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson at his annual 4th of July concert and shared the stage with Buck Owens, John Hiatt, Lucinda Williams, George Jones and Steve Earle. Their music has recently found more exposure on the HBO hit television series True Blood and Joan of Arcadia. - wikipedia

iarooster added: “I mailed a copy of the recording to Mark, and when they played the M-Shop a year and half later, he said that he thought it was great, especially Get Rhythm. He said something like, “we ought to release that one!” He was probably just blowing smoke… but it was a good performance… Speaking of good performances, I think this performance of Pride of Abilene beats the studio take on the Distance Between album.”
