ANDY FRASER R.I.P. 1952-2015
Free bassist Andy Fraser, the writer of All Right Now - who had previously fought both AIDS and cancer - has died at his home on March 16, 2015 in California. He was 62. The cause of death has not been confirmed, but he’d been dealing with AIDS and cancer in recent years. In the 1980s he was diagnosed with HIV and a form of cancer called Kaposi’s Sarcoma and he battled with suicidal thoughts which, he wrote on his website, were only alleviated when he came out as gay. Fraser had recently been a leading light in the Rock Against Trafficking charity.

This short Sharks set is being seeded now in tribute to Andy Fraser, who passed away… and, by request. Thanks to the original taper (from long ago) and seeder (from a few years back).This was Andy’s post-Free project that he only stayed with for one album, First Water. That is available now on CD, much more reasonably than it was a few years ago when this was first seeded. I actually saw Sharks opening for Gentle Giant in NYC, but it was the Busta Cherry on bass version, and not the incarnation with Andy.

This great sounding radio show comes from a well packaged boot entitled “Radio Free”. It also contained four BBC tracks as outtakes, but I have chosen not to include them, as at least one is officially released, and the other three may be studio outtakes instead of BBC stuff. You obviously can’t trust anything you read on a boot as gospel. These guys even went to the extent of having the disc look like the pink Island label, with the customary bootleg “Not for sale - radio broadcast only” on the disc.
