IT’S A BEAUTIFUL DAY
Bath 1970 [no label, 1CD]

Live at the Bath Festival Of Blues & Progressive Music ‘70, Royal Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet, Somerset, UK; June 27, 1970. (Eighth band o’ the day, sandwiched between Colosseum and Steppenwolf.) Fairly good mono audience recording.

It’s A Beautiful Day was the showcase for David and Linda Laflamme. They enjoyed a brief vogue in the early ’70s ,their reputation built largely on the strengths of their 1969 LP entitled imaginatively - ‘It’s A Beautiful Day.” This featured some of the songs they played during their set at Bath, but by this date they had also released their second album, Marrying Maiden…

Highlights of this set are Time Is, which develops into a lengthy jam, as well as Soapstone Mountain, Hoedown and Bulgaria. This last number builds into a goodly jam which goes into some frantic spaces and is much longer than the album version. The sun actually shone during this set, which probably helped the band get the crowd going, it’s harder to boogie when you are wrapped up in a plastic sheet. - ukrockfestivals.com/iabd.html

Thanks to kneesfudd for sharing the show at Dime.

kneesfudd’s notes:

Fine but varying quality AUD (due mostly to weather!).
WARTS: Occasional mike bumps, mostly fixed but some not fully repaired. Bit o’ clappin’ in #4 - mostly exorcised. Occasional AUD talk, especially in #8. Several annoying unrepairable dropouts in #8. Tapeflip a minute into #10. At times wind creates some phasing, distortion & high end & fluctuations, but ’tis pretty damn groovy nonetheless.
Pattie Santos to crowd, “You make me feel so stoned!” and “This sure beats Albert Hall. It’s outside. Everybody’s stoned, having a good time” with AUD member response, “It’s bloody cold!”
WARNING! “The PILLS I gave you were NOT aspirins!, I repeat…” (stage announcement)
