CARAVAN AND GONG
BBC 1971-1974 [no label, 1CD]
BBC Radio 1 Sessions. Rebroadcast on Alan “Fluff” Freeman’s Saturday Rock Show during the early 1990s. Very good radio broadcasts.
Caravan were formed in 1968, during the reign of the Canterbury sound - a sudden waft of enthusiasm for avant-garde progressive rock (a blending of psychedelic rock, jazz and classical music). By the mid-’70s, the band had become synonymous with the scene. - BBC
Gong started out as a European post-hippie band with its own mythology of Pothead Pixies and UFOs and an unpredictable punning mixture of rock and folk and jazz and synthesizers. Eventually, after numerous personnel changes and offshoots (some called Gong), the band moved into more conventional jazz rock. - Rolling Stone
