(Joni) Mitchell performs for the first time with bassist Jaco Pastorius, at a Save the Whales benefit concert in Sacramento, California. Her new album, Hejira, featuring Pastorius on several tracks, will be released two days later. The day after that, Mitchell is one of several guest performers at The Band’s farewell concert at the Winterland ballroom in San Francisco. - Icons Of Rock, by Scott Schinder and Andy Schwartz
Among those who attended the show was Governor Jerry Brown, with his date, Linda Ronstadt.
